The Game
What makes “Mysteries of the Forest” unique and interesting is that it can be played
in a variety of ways for various time durations, depending on the age and knowledge
of the players. The players (with the roll of a die) travel around a trail consisting of
staggering stones on a forest-illustrated background, answering trivia based multiple choice
questions from five different categories. The five categories are World Forestry
and Parks, Forest Sciences, General Forestry, Forest Trees and Plants, and Forest
Wildlife. There are 192 questions in each category for a total of 960 questions. Each
correct answer earns the player a marker that corresponds with each category that is
placed in a special seedling tray. The categories, trivia cards and trees are color coded
to match the game board’s path stones. The game also includes 96 specially marked
elementary cards in each category.
The players can also obtain a tree by properly guessing one of the 96 picture cards.
These are special black colored trees and only one is allowed per category. This adds
variety to the approach of asking questions.
There are also miss-a-turn, free seedling and lose-a-seedling stones and one forest
fi re stone where a player loses a tree from each category. A player can also challenge
a question but only if they have one marker remaining in a category to complete that
category. These special path stones make the game more entertaining, challenging
and competitive.
The player who fi lls the seedling tray fi rst to the required number of trees or has the
most trees at the end of predetermined time duration wins the game. The maximum
number of trees is 20, four in each category.
